St. Poelten University of Applied Sciences, School of Social Work

Located in Austrias oldest city, St. Poelten University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1996 and has appr. 2,200 students. St. Poelten UAS runs degree programmes and continuing education courses in the fields of Health and Social Sciences, Technology, and Media Economics. There is a strong emphasis on practical orientation and students are encouraged to study and work abroad.

The School of Social Work offers a Bachelor’s degree which is general in nature, qualifying graduates to work in any of the professions to which social work is relevant. At the same time the modular structure and project orientation enable students to specialise in particular aspects of Social Work. The curriculum includes three internship periods.
On the Master’s degree, the students elect advanced courses in either General Social Work or Case Management. The Master’s students acquire further skills in the modern methods of social work as well as research skills.
A number of continuing education courses complete the study portfolio, e.g. Social Pedagogics, and Addiction Counselling and Prevention.
The School of Social Work co-operates closely with the university’s Ilse Arlt Institute on Social Inclusion Research, to ensure that there is a direct exchange between teaching and research.

St. Poelten UAS possesses the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education and maintains ties with more than 100 universities in Europe and beyond. International students are welcome and can rely on the support of a peer network, the ISN (International Student Network).

A special focus is given to the Campus Media (radio, TV and magazine), students of any field can get involved and benefit from hands-on training in working with these modern media.
