The University of South-Eastern Norway (USN) is a State University with approximately 18 000 students. USN is a no profit organization based in the South-Eastern part of Norway.
USN has campuses in B, Notodden, Porsgrunn, Rauland, Drammen, Kongsberg, Hnefoss, and Horten, and offers a broad range of academic opportunities at bachelors-, masters- and PhD-levels. the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences is present at several of these campuses.
The member in SocNet98 is the Department of Health, Social and Welfare Studies. It is mainly situated at our Campus Porsgrunn in the City of Porsgrunn.
USN is a Fairtrade Institution. This is a strong signal that shows how USN actively takes social responsibility, as well as responsibility for the environment and for showing global solidarity.
The three pillars of the USN activities are education, research and dissemination.

The Faculty of Health and Social Care
The faculty has the following departments:

Our faculty includes committed professionals with extensive experience. This ensures our programs to be relevant to the challenges you face in the workplace.
In addition to professional study programs, we offer a number of master degree programs, including: Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, Preventive Work with Children and Young People, Health Promotion, Midwifery, and Optometry. We also offer a PhD programme in person-centric research.
Continuing education
The facultys commissioned research is growing rapidly. We tailor make courses, studies and research in line with society’s needs for increased knowledge. The program offering is developed in collaboration with the business community.
Research
The Faculty of Health and Social Sciences has research groups in Drammen, Kongsberg, Porsgrunn and Vestfold. It operates extensive research activities, often in partnership with public institutions and private business. Our vision is that the Faculty of Health and Social Science should be a leading center of excellence for health care education, research and dissemination of person-centered and multidisciplinary health care with a special focus on primary health care.
